During my college time, I worked as a teacher cum brother for kids in a nonprofit foundation called Literacy mission. These kids come from poor families laboring at construction sites of which most are immigrants and nearby villages. While working closely with kids I realized that most of these kids are suffering from malnutrition. With the help of our mentors we took various initiatives such as increasing the distribution of necessary supplements on more regular basis and increasing health checkups frequency. Looking back now with the more than three years of experience of data science and data analytics and its applications, I think I could have addressed the issue of malnutrition more effectively and efficiently using data analysis. Two main questions related to malnutrition 1) what are the causes of child malnutrition? 2) what are the impacts of this child's malnutrition? can be answered effectively by analyzing data on a more larger scale. This analyzed data can be used to answer third question 3) how to minimize the prevalence of this child malnutrition.
In my heart, I always wanted to work towards social issues such as Child malnutrition, education and various other social issues and to create a large-scale social impact through my work experience and leadership skills. DSSG Solve is an amazing platform which will provide me wonderful opportunity to contribute my Data Science skills to work on projects related to non-profit sectors. Also the peer learning, and global network will not only give me a global perspective but also will help me to groom myself as a responsible and informed leader.
