Dear DSSG managers,
I would like to express my interest in volunteering for Data Science for Social Good. I've recently finished my university studies in economics & statistics, having earned one BSc. and two MSc. in those fields. Moreover, I've been learning Data Science tools for more than 7 years, because I have felt at the beginning that knowing how to use those tools would undoubtedly be a very powerful asset for my analyses as an economist.
Some examples of tasks that I've done are:
Used the R language in one way or the other to finish three different thesis. Some tasks involved were Deep Learning image classification, currency portfolio optimization and spatial econometrics predictive modelling.
Made an Exploratory Data Analysis in an internship for a public report meant to be used by my university in order to gauge degree affinity to the labor market, using data from job insertion of university degrees across Spain in the cities of A Coruña & Ferrol.
Earned a Data Science Professional Certificate from DataCamp, for which I had to develop a project about used car sales prices, importing, cleaning and modelling data to check if there is evidence of under/overpricing of cars, and present the results to a non-technical audience, among other challenges.
Because of these reasons and my interest in societal issues, I think my profile fits your objective of bringing value to solve society's problems in a broad array of subjects. Please do not hesitate in contacting me if you should need any more detailed information. I look forward to your reply.
Yours sincerely, Edward Velo Fuentes.
