I’m José Manuel, a freelance Data Engineer based in Madrid. I’ve worked in data teams since 2021 (startups, big tech and consultancies) and now I focus on building reliable data pipelines and platforms (ETL/ELT, batch & streaming, cloud) so others can do analytics and ML with trustworthy data.
My main skills are in Python, SQL, Airflow/Composer, dbt, Kafka, Spark/Beam, and cloud (AWS & GCP), plus some NLP/LLM and dashboarding experience. I enjoy owning the “plumbing”: ingestion, cleaning, modeling, orchestration and documentation, and collaborating with data scientists and domain experts so everything is reproducible and usable.
I’d like to volunteer at DSSG because I want my freelance career to be increasingly focused on purpose-driven projects: health, education, environment, climate change, agriculture, social impact, NGOs and tech for good in general—any project that genuinely improves people’s lives. I’m especially happy working on projects that need strong data foundations (integrating messy sources, building robust pipelines, preparing data for models and impact evaluation).
What I hope to accomplish is:
contribute solid, well-documented data infrastructure that lives on after the program,
learn more about how social good projects measure real-world impact and fairness, and
connect with a community of people who care about using data and engineering to help others.
