Hi! My name is Ellein Cheng, and I'm currently an Associate Data Scientist at an ad tech company. I completed my undergraduate degree at Carnegie Mellon University, with a major in Mathematics, focusing on Operations Research. My past work experience comprised of quantitative analytics in finance, high school math education, as well as client servicing in ad tech. During various points of my career, I've furthered my knowledge and skills by obtaining a Masters in Adolescent Math Education, as well as completing a 10-week intensive course in Data Science, and an online Data Science in Python certificate program.
One passion I have that has driven most of my career decisions is to be in a role where I could empower others to succeed. This has motivated me to become a teacher to teenagers, a mentor to new hires/interns, a solutions consultant to ad tech clients, as well as a technical team lead nurturing my teammates. I switched into a Data Science role almost 2 years ago - no only because I love numbers, but also I see it as a valuable channel to exercise the same passion I've always had - empowering organizations to succeed by making data-driven decisions. Which is why I'm interested in volunteering with DSSG.
I do not have any strong project preferences and work, and am open to anything! That being said, my previous career in public education could increase my effectiveness in projects related to education or child/teenage development. Additionally, anti human trafficking is a cause near and dear to my heart. It was also a topic I decided to focus on when I was completing my project for the Data Science intensive course (Presentation File: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bz_c40bl1x4gLUw0bE10YjZpYnNlRVZtNlZfRGtEUjVHUjZR/view) If there are any anti-trafficking related projects, I would be thrilled to a part of it.
Looking forward to working with DSSG!
