Hey there,

I'm an aspiring data scientist who has just graduated from university in June 2020. My first ever data science project was my thesis project in which I carried out a competitor analysis for a hotel of a leading Southeast Asian international hotel group. I used web scraping techniques (Selenium) to get data on competitors, R to do some modeling and Shiny to showcase the results. I was also responsible for managing this project which included keeping in touch with the client and estimating the workload.

Since September 2020 I have been working at IBM as a Data Analyst. Our team sells procurement analytics as a service therefore my main responsibilities are ETL tasks in SQL and pyspark on my client's monthly data. However, I also take part in development projects which aim at enhancing the machine learning algorithms that are part of our service. These algorithms are written in python and mainly focused on natural language processing which is one of my areas of interest in the field of ML.

My motivation for volunteering is mainly to get experience in not just various areas of ML but also in managing data science projects as one day I would like to become a freelance data scientist. What's particularly appealing in this platform is that I can do so while working on meaningful projects that have an impact.
