Hey Y'all,
I'm a current PhD Student studying gestures in robotics from a cognitive perspective. Previously I received a bachelors in Computer Science and Cognitive Sciences from Tufts University in Boston, and worked as a software engineer and team manager (technical PM, sort of) in companies working on Robotics and Emotional AI. My research goals are to bridge the gap between psychological, cognitive, and computer science to create natural-looking, communicative, complex gestures in social robots.
The flexibility of my PhD and my personal goals (along with my advisor's understanding) allow me about 1 day of volunteer work/week, which I'm hoping to fill with data-science-for-good projects that address areas I'm passionate about -- namely, saving the environment and social justice (wealth, racial, gender, and health equality).
My strongest technical skills include: -back end/algorithmic programming (python/javascript, C/C++, java experience) - statistical and experimental design and analysis (R, python experience) - machine learning/neural network programming (python experience) - (working with external libraries for) NLP/cloud speech and acoustic processing
But I'm also passable at: - DevOps/cloud management - Database configuration and management - Front end UIs (React experience) - Interactive Data visualizations (Javascript, R Shiny experience)
I'm a big believer in learning on the job, and I am extremely motivated by trying to be a great team player and the big-picture of a project.
Please reach out if you feel I could be a good fit for a project, or if you'd just like to chat about anything you see here or on my website (carolynsaund.me).
Cheers,
Carolyn
