Dear Hiring Manager at Data Science for Good,

I am writing to express my interest in the data scientist position at your organization. With a Master's degree in Mathematics from Waterloo and a Master's degree in Data Science from UBC, I bring extensive experience in data analysis and a passion for using data science for good causes.

As a former data scientist at Statistics Canada for a year, I have honed my skills in data science and helped developed cutting-edge techniques of secure multiparty computation, one paper of which has been accepted to a major conference. Additionally at Statistics Canada, I helped develop a cutting edge tabular data generative model, although I did not get to see this come to fortition since I was laid off due to budgetary concerns.

During my internship at AltaML as a data scientist at a major offshore oil platform allowed me to apply my skills in a real-world setting and develop my problem-solving abilities. We were able to construct a model that would predict the result of running a physical test. We delivered a presentation to the board of directors, and they were very excited that our proof-of-concept model could eventually save them 20 or more million dollars a year.

I am well-versed in both traditional statistical methods and Bayesian techniques and I constantly seek to improve my skills and develop new methods. One of my projects involves the synthetic generation of tabular data, which showcases my ability to think creatively and innovatively. Moreover, I spend three hours of my day working on mathematics I love, and believe may be of use in developing modeling techniques.

At Data Science for Good, I see an opportunity to combine my passion for data science with my desire to make a positive impact. I am eager to contribute my skills and expertise to your organization and help drive meaningful change.

Thank you for considering my application.

Sincerely, Chris Dugdale
