Redo.io is a data science for social good non-profit developing digital public goods and tools for criminal justice reform in California, US. Our core project at the moment is the Resentencing Data Initiative. We are building a rules-based eligibility model for Prosecutor Initiated Resentencing (PIR) in California, a 2018 “second-look” legislation that enables prosecutors to revisit old cases and propose revised sentences to the court. Our work aids attorneys in streamlining and reducing manual labor in the eligibility evaluation process. Additionally, we study the California prison population more broadly with the purpose of identifying non-violent offenders serving life-sentences for minor or petty offenses.
